In today’s world, we often times lose focus on what really matters to ourselves as individuals. Who can’t relate to it? You get ready in the morning, showing up on-site for work, rush from one meeting to another. Getting to-do lists done. Going home in the late afternoon or evening. Perhaps, if you are lucky, you spend some time with family or friends. And repeat.
You hope one day, you can escape from the bitter circle of responsibilities. You push aside the ambitious goals and dreams you set for yourself because you hope that at some point in time, you can pursue the things that you want.
And so often, sometimes becomes never.
You feel exhausted and realise how time flies by so fast. And at the end of the day you ask yourself: Have I been, at all times, loyal to myself and have I ever took my self-care ahead of any other thing?
How much time do you have left?
As with so many things in our life, the fundamental question that will force you to focus on the relevant things is: How much time do you have left to do the things that matters?
Just think about it for a second. You realise?
It’s not much.
And as hard as it may sound but we cannot determine the end date.
When you realise that you simply can’t sit around and hope, think, or dream about the things you want to pursue for yourself.
Seek clarity and make priorities
You have to understand that putting yourself first does not equal selfish per se. Putting yourself means to work and take of the things that are for you so important that it become THE ONE THING for you to work so hard that you can achieve it. It doesn’t matter what comes to you on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter how challenging it might be to work on it because you are stuck on those to-do lists or in busyness.
When you seek clarity in the things that you need to do in order to take care of yourself, then how much are you willing to protect and work on it? How much ownership will you take to hold yourself accountable for your own self-care?
