Get a job that requires you to travel a lot
It may sound like a no-brainer but sometimes those advices are not too dumb to not take into account. If you currently have a job that only gives you a comfortable cube in an office space, then it’s probably time to talk with your manager or your employer to get a new position in your current organisation. Some jobs require you to travel a bit more. Consider jobs in sales, consulting or business development that ultimately require you to travel more frequently on a weekly basis. For example, Mark described in one of our articles about his current job position that enables him to travel on a weekly basis. We know some people who take this chance to make more of their weekends adventurous by travel to client-site and to spend the weekends in that region, e.g. your customer is in a different region of your country where you would hardly travel for leisure.
Get a home office contract from your employer
If you get this one, then even better! Home office contracts have become in some industries more popular as employers demand from employees to be more flexible. However, depending on your country and your local laws, it’s highly recommended to take a closer look to the details. Compensation, travel times, working hours, and so on ought to get a closer look and a thorough evaluation.
Once you have complected this and you decide to get a home office contract, then you have more flexibility to work anywhere. Why don’t you combine your work with some of your travel ambitions? You no longer purely rely on the weekends.
However, with all those great advantages, make sure you plan and schedule ahead. Sometimes, in-perosn meetings can be called in short-notice, so maintain and make sure your calendar is always up to date with your respective availability.
Take advantage of long weekends
Again, this seems to be a no-brainer but nevertheless we stress this big factor: Take advantage of long weekends! If you don’t want to consider the two aspects that are describe above, then long weekends are the alternative for you. If you do that, make sure you book and schedule it in advance. Nothing is more upsetting than to know you need to pay double or triple the price because most people will take advantage of long weekends.
